People Power Party Representative Jang Dong-hyeok is speaking while attending the Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly on the 13th. [Yonhap News]
On the 13th, the People Power Party launched an offensive regarding allegations that President Lee Jae-myung played golf on the day a navy frigate crew member, who had gone missing in the East Sea, was found dead, demanding that "all related records be disclosed."
Representative Jang Dong-hyeok stated on Facebook that day, "The allegation has been raised that while a navy soldier was breathing his last in the cold waters of the East Sea, the President was leisurely playing golf. How devastating must this be for the bereaved family?"
Representative Jang claimed, "The allegations are very specific. It was confirmed early on the morning of the 12th that the soldier was missing. The time it is alleged that (the President) started playing golf is around 11:00 AM on the 12th," adding, "It is said that many people, including security personnel, witnessed the President's party."
He further urged, "If that is indeed true, we can no longer recognize Lee Jae-myung as the Commander-in-Chief of the Republic of Korea's Armed Forces. Disclose all related materials, including reports after the soldier went missing, records of entry into the Taereung Country Club, and CCTV footage, accurately by the minute."
Supreme Council member Shin Dong-wook stated, "Allegations are spreading online that the President played golf at Taereung at the time the missing soldier was found dead," and added, "I hope the Blue House will prevent further confusion by providing a clear explanation that the President did not play golf."
Representative Na Kyung-won emphasized on Facebook, "If the reported allegations are true, this is a serious security lapse that would have led the Democratic Party to swiftly push for a parliamentary investigation, a special counsel probe, and even impeachment had it happened under a conservative administration," adding, "President Lee must personally explain the truth behind the golf allegations to the public."
Representative Yoo Sang-bum demanded, "If President Lee swung a golf club despite knowing about the disappearance, he has lost his qualification as Commander-in-Chief, and if he did not even receive a report, it is clear evidence of security incompetence," adding, "Explain this clearly and immediately to the military personnel and the public."
