Public opinion polls show that Lee Jae-myung’s approval rating for state affairs performance has fallen sharply since the previous survey, barely holding onto the 40% range.

According to a survey conducted by Korea Information Research, a public opinion polling agency, on behalf of Cheonji Ilbo on the 20th and 21st, targeting 1,004 men and women aged 18 and older nationwide, Lee’s positive approval rating for state affairs was 40.8%, a 7.8 percentage point drop from the previous survey.

Conversely, the negative assessment rose by 7.7 percentage points to 56.5%, placing it 15.7 percentage points ahead of the positive assessment, outside the margin of error. The percentage of those who said they were unsure was 2.7%.

An analysis by age group shows that negative assessments prevailed in all age groups except for those in their 50s. Notably, those in their 30s showed the most critical response to his state performance, with positive ratings falling into the 20% range.

△30s: Positive 29.2%, Negative 68.9% (highest negative assessment among all age groups)

△40s: Positive 45.9%, Negative 53.6%

△50s: Positive 50.8%, Negative 47.2% (the only group with a positive lead)

△70 and older: Positive 38.6%, Negative 55.9%

By region, the negative assessment exceeded 50% in all areas except for the Honam and Jeju regions.

△Busan/Ulsan/Gyeongnam (PK): Positive 25.8%, Negative 70.9% (highest negative assessment by region)

△Daegu/Gyeongbuk (TK): Positive 36.8%, Negative 61.3%

△Seoul: Positive 38.9%, Negative 59.6%

△Gyeonggi/Incheon: Positive 41.0%, Negative 55.6%

△Chungcheong/Gangwon: Positive 44.5%, Negative 53.3%

△Honam/Jeju: Positive 62.4%, Negative 34.5%

By political ideology, 85.7% of conservatives gave a negative assessment (11.5% positive), and among centrists, who often determine the direction of public sentiment, negative views were also stronger with 45.5% positive and 51.9% negative. Among progressives, the positive assessment was 68.0% (30.7% negative).

This survey was conducted on 1,004 men and women aged 18 and older nationwide using a wireless RDD automated response system (ARS). The margin of error is ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level. Further details can be found on the National Election Survey Deliberation Commission’s website.
