Trump's SNS Truth Social [AP=Yonhap News file photo]
It has been reported that five high-frequency trading (HFT) firms have completed contracts for a new service that allows them to receive posts from Truth Social, the social media platform owned by U.S. President Donald Trump, 0.001 seconds faster than general users.
According to the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) on the 22nd (local time), at least five HFT firms have signed up for the "Truth API" service, which is set to officially launch on August 1st.
Truth API is a service that allows users to view posts from key accounts, including those of President Trump and Vice President JD Vance, earlier than the general public.
Trump Media & Technology Group (DJT), the operator of Truth Social, is charging $100,000 per month for the service, with a discounted rate of $60,000 per month for long-term contracts.
It is understood that Wall Street investment firms have already built and are operating systems that monitor Truth Social, detect key terms, and automatically execute large-scale trading orders.
These algorithms are capable of recognizing not only specific words like "Iran" or "ceasefire," but also characteristic phrases often used by President Trump during major announcements, such as "Thank you for your attention to this matter," to execute immediate trades.
In fact, President Trump's posts have been shown to move financial markets instantly.
According to financial data firm DTN, when President Trump posted about Iran last month, over 2 million shares were traded within the first minute, causing energy and industrial stock prices to fluctuate by more than 2%.
On June 9, when President Trump posted about the attack on a U.S. Army Apache helicopter patrolling the Strait of Hormuz and expressed his intention to respond, trading volume and prices for energy-related stocks surged.
On June 11, after he posted that negotiations with Iran were underway, that he had called off an airstrike scheduled for that evening, and that a long-term peace agreement might be possible, energy and defense stock prices plummeted.
On Wall Street, there is a growing consensus that the high-speed Truth Social feed will become an industry essential.
A representative from the options brokerage firm Bay Crest explained that this is less about seeking excess returns and more of a defensive expense paid to avoid being left behind in the market.
As this service is effectively tailored for institutional investors using algorithms, there is growing criticism that it could further widen the information gap with individual investors and undermine market fairness.
