“Defendant Lee Jae-myung, come out; let’s have the trial again.”

During the Supreme Court audit held by the Legislation and Judiciary Committee at the National Assembly in Yeouido, Seoul, on the 13th, Representative Joo Jin-woo of the People Power Party lashed out, asking, “Why are Democratic Party lawmakers acting as defense attorneys?”

Representative Joo struck directly at the issue, stating, “Is it acceptable to receive a taxpayer-funded salary while acting as a defense attorney for Lee Jae-myung?” He added, “No matter how severe the single-leader system within the Democratic Party is, and no matter how many people have ambitions with the local elections approaching, isn't this going too far? Aren't you ashamed before history?”

He continued his questioning by asking, “You are calling for a retrial, but the defense attorneys are all here—where is the defendant?” He demanded to know, “Why is defendant Lee Jae-myung not here, and why are only his defense attorneys showing up and making noise regarding this trial?”

He further pointed out, “My point is that if you want a retrial, let's do it properly. Why aren't you calling the judicial panel that delivered the botched second-instance ruling? Because of the flawed acquittal in the second instance, Lee Jae-myung has now become president.”
