Rep. Jang Dong-hyuk of the People Power Party holds a press conference at the National Assembly in Yeouido, Seoul on the 17th. Yonhap News.
Jang Dong-hyuk, the leader of the People Power Party, visited the Seoul Detention Center on the 17th and met with former President Yoon Suk-yeol for 10 minutes.
Jang announced this fact by posting on Facebook on the 18th.
In his post, Jang said, "I visited President Yoon Suk-yeol yesterday morning. He was well-armed with the words of the Bible and prayer, even in difficult circumstances."
He emphasized, "Let us also unite and fight. To save the free Republic of Korea from collapsing under a leftist regime, and to protect the peaceful lives of the people."
This visit was conducted in the format of a general visit, and lasted for about 10 minutes from 11:10 AM the previous day, accompanied by Supreme Council member Kim Min-soo.
Jang had pledged during his campaign for party leader that he would visit former President Yoon at an appropriate time if he became the party leader.
Earlier, Jang had applied for a special visit to former President Yoon, but it was not approved by the detention center due to an ongoing special prosecution investigation.
The visit was reportedly made possible by former President Yoon's permission for a general visit by Jang and Supreme Council member Kim.
A source from the party leadership told Yonhap News, "As Rep. Jang promised to visit former President Yoon since his campaign days, he has now fulfilled that promise. We will now dedicate ourselves to preparing for the local elections next year with a renewed mindset."
