  • Two days after the adoption of the resolution, a direct, impactful statement was made.

Jang Dong-hyuk, interim leader of the People Power Party, stated on the 11th regarding the resolution opposing 'Yoon Again' that "As the party leader, I respect the resolution that reflects the opinions of 107 members."

This is the first time Jang has directly commented on the matter.

Jang told reporters at a welcome event for newly recruited talent for regional development held at the National Assembly that day, "For the victory in the local elections, the position we stated at the general meeting that day must be our final stance. Further controversy will not help us win the local elections," and he said this.

Previously, the People Power Party held an emergency general meeting on the 9th and adopted a resolution centered on apologizing for the 12.3 emergency martial law and opposing the political return of former President Yoon Suk-yeol, in the name of all its lawmakers.

The following is the full statement by interim leader Jang Dong-hyuk (Source: US Political Gallery)

At the general meeting of our party on Monday, 107 members of the People Power Party clearly stated our position on various internal controversies in the name of all 107 members.

It was in the name of all 107 members, and I was also present when we announced that resolution to the public.

And I also conveyed through the spokesperson my position that as the party leader, I respect that resolution, which contains the deliberations of our 107 members, and that I will do my best for victory in the local elections based on that resolution.

I believe that for the victory in the local elections, the position we stated at the general meeting that day must be our final stance.

I do not believe that further controversy will be helpful for victory in the local elections.

Before that position was finalized, the party leadership and the floor leadership engaged in various consultations multiple times, and the general meeting was held and the resolution was adopted after consolidating various opinions from the leadership.

I believe that detailing what discussions took place and what procedures were followed during that process would start another controversy.

What is clear is that the position announced that day in the name of all 107 members is the position of the People Power Party.

And I repeat, I will do my best to run for the local elections, based on that resolution and respecting that resolution, for victory in the local elections.

I believe that what we need to show the public now is not continued debate, but how we will make the resolution our final stance, how we will work our hardest for the local election victory with a changed appearance, and how we will show results through our actions.

There were also various other discussions that were not included in the resolution.

As the party leader, I will consider which parts to accept and how to lead the party, and if there are any necessary aspects, I will have the opportunity to clarify my position as party leader and convey it.

I believe that the decision to hold the general meeting and adopt the resolution on Monday after various discussions is a result that reflects the desire of the 107 members, our party members, and all those who support the People Power Party to end internal conflict and achieve victory in the local elections.

I repeat, there should be no further controversy regarding the resolution, its content, the process leading up to the general meeting, or the discussions held so far.

I would like you to focus only on the content of the resolution and the sincerity shown by the 107 members, including myself and our lawmakers, during that process.

I will conclude my remarks here.
