The collection of columns and essays, "There Are No Holidays in Security," which captures vivid records of the security landscape, has been published. This book compiles the records of a former officer who has observed South Korea's security landscape for over half a century, from his start as a public affairs officer to becoming the editor-in-chief of the Korea Defense Daily and engaging in security organization activities.

Since commissioning as a second lieutenant in the Army in 1974, the author has served in various key positions within the military, including frontline units, Army Headquarters, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and the Ministry of National Defense. Even after his retirement, he has participated in shaping security discourse through his roles as editor-in-chief of the Korea Defense Daily and through activities with the Korea Institute for Crisis Management and the Korean Veterans Association. This book is a compilation of over 60 security columns and essays he contributed to military media and other publications.

The book is broadly divided into two parts. Part 1, under the theme "Security is a Matter of National and Public Survival," covers fostering a strong military, establishing the concept of security, and veteran welfare philosophy through three chapters: "Soldiers Who Are Like Soldiers, Armies That Are Like Armies," "The Nation Stands Strong When Security Stands Strong," and "Veteran Welfare is the Dignity of a Nation."

Part 2, "Security Essays," organizes reflections and lessons on the essence of national security, including combined defense, crisis management, and security education, focusing on the issues and solutions the author encountered firsthand in the security field.

The most significant characteristic of this book is that it is based on experiences encountered in actual military organizations and security situations, rather than being theory-centered security discourse. The author repeatedly emphasizes that security is not the task of a specific group but a matter directly linked to the survival of all citizens and the minimum condition for a nation's existence.

While societal perceptions surrounding security have become much more diverse today than in the past, there is simultaneously a growing sense of security fatigue and indifference. The author states that in such times, the strength to defend the nation and national consensus are even more important. Throughout the book, the author's insights and sense of responsibility, gained from experiencing both the military and society, are evident.
