Lee Jun-seok, the Reform Party's General Election Committee Chairman, appealing for votes (Seoul=Yonhap News) Reporter Bae Jae-man = Reform Party General Election Committee Chairman Lee Jun-seok is campaigning in support at a rally for Seoul mayoral candidate Kim Jeong-cheol near Sadang Station in Dongjak-gu, Seoul, on May 21. 2026.5.21 scoop@yna.co.kr
Reform Party General Election Committee Chairman Lee Jun-seok appealed on the 28th regarding the Pyeongtaek-eul parliamentary by-election in Gyeonggi Province, saying, "Please help the People Power Party candidate Yoo Eui-dong get the opportunity to work in the National Assembly once more, so that Godeok International New City in Pyeongtaek and Dongtan can join hands and develop together."
Lee, whose constituency is Hwaseong-eul in Gyeonggi Province, which includes Dongtan New City, wrote on his Facebook page that day, "I am humbly asking not as the leader of the Reform Party, but as a member of the National Assembly who must prevent the forced relocation of the semiconductor industry in southern Gyeonggi and protect the rights and interests of engineers and researchers in science and engineering."
Dongtan and Pyeongtaek are adjacent living areas, with Samsung Electronics' Hwaseong campus located in Dongtan and Samsung Electronics' Pyeongtaek campus in Pyeongtaek.
This is the first time the Reform Party has requested support for a candidate from another party, including the People Power Party. The Reform Party did not field a candidate in the Pyeongtaek-eul parliamentary by-election.
Lee emphasized, "Candidate Yoo is someone I personally invited with great effort to be my policy committee chairman, and we have a long-standing trust. He is someone who has always spoken the truth, without bearing any responsibility for the martial law or the Yoon Suk-yeol administration's misgovernance."
He added, "Some figures in the Democratic Party are suggesting moving the southern Gyeonggi semiconductor belt to Saemangeum or Jeonnam. The threat is upon us, and I am deeply concerned about whether I can fend it off alone. If the residents of Pyeongtaek respond, we will have two members of the National Assembly who will work to solve Pyeongtaek's problems together."
