The chairman of the Songpa-gu Election Management Committee, where the "ballot shortage incident" occurred, has resigned.
The National Election Commission announced on the 10th that Min So-young, chairman of the Songpa-gu Election Management Committee, who oversees the Jamsil area of Seoul, recently submitted her resignation. The Seoul Metropolitan Election Management Committee dismissed Chairman Min on the 9th.
Chairman Min, who was appointed as the chairman of the Songpa-gu Election Management Committee on February 28th as the chief judge of the Seoul Eastern District Court, was reported to the police on charges of dereliction of duty due to the ballot shortage incident.
During the main voting for the June 3 local elections, a shortage of ballots was reported at 140 polling stations nationwide, with shortages concentrated mainly in the metropolitan area, including Seoul (42 locations) and Gyeonggi (23 locations). In Seoul, Songpa-gu had the most cases with 20 locations.
With Chairman Min's resignation, the Songpa-gu Election Management Committee will operate under the acting chairmanship of Vice Chairman Kim Han-kwang.
Previously, Oh Sang-taek, the chief of the Songpa Police Station, who was in charge of responding to the protest to block the Jamsil polling station and vote counting station, also applied for dismissal on the 9th.
