Code of Conduct for Journalists

All journalists of 한미일보 determine the matters that journalists must concretely practice as follows,
and pledge to abide by them.

(1) We make every effort to prevent infringement on editing rights due to external interference or pressure.

(2) We protect the principle of separation between management and editing, and declare that even shareholders or directors cannot exercise unfair interference or pressure.

(3) We refuse the entry of investigative and information agency officials into the newspaper office and illegal detention related to newspaper production, and when unfairly detained, we join forces to deal with it for restoration of the original state.

(4) We recognize the right to refuse a superior's unfair coverage instructions for specific reasons, let alone reduction, distortion, or concealment caused by internal or external pressures or for the benefit of specific forces.

(1) We refuse to accept money or goods under any pretext, including cash and valuable securities (including gift certificates).

(2) We do not seek unfair profits in commercial transactions or pursue other personal gains, such as purchasing goods for free or at a discount by utilizing our position in the newspaper company.

(3) We refuse various solicitations, entertainment such as golf and travel provided by sources or targets of activity, and refuse free admission to concert halls, stadiums, etc., except for official coverage purposes. However, if urgency is required to the extent that transportation of the military, police, or government agencies must be used for disaster scene coverage, etc., we may accompany them for coverage.

(4) If accompanying coverage is necessary for the domestic or international travel of a coverage subject, such as administrative agencies, corporations, councils, or politicians, all coverage expenses shall be borne by the company. However, exceptions are recognized for matters evaluated as having highly significant public interest by the Accompanying Coverage Deliberation Committee.

(5) We do not pursue financial interests such as investment or asset growth for ourselves, relatives, or friends by using undisclosed information learned during the process of coverage and activity. In addition, we must not establish conflicts of interest, such as direct investment or equity participation, in stocks of companies in our assigned coverage areas.

(6) We may receive materials such as books, music records, and tapes necessary for reporting and commentary. Such materials shall be owned by the company.

(7) We do not make personal requests or solicitations to fellow journalists to resolve civil complaints.

(8) The business and financial activities of ourselves, our families, and friends must not influence article writing or reporting.

(9) We refrain from low-level words and actions that could be subject to criticism from sources during the coverage process.

(10) We do not attend various workshops or gatherings that exceed conventional boundaries held at the beating place for editorial department executives or regular reporters for purposes other than coverage.

(11) We do not engage in forced sales of our company's publications or forced advertising, and we do not link this with coverage and reporting.

(12) We do not collect or provide information or materials for purposes other than coverage.

(13) We do not leak the operation of the company or internal company secrets.

(14) When contacting administrative agencies and corporations for private purposes other than coverage, we neither reveal nor utilize our identity as a journalist.

(1) We do not participate in activities that cause damage to the company.

(2) We do not participate in the projects and activities of government agencies, and we do not involve ourselves in the projects of profit-making organizations directly related to the duties we perform in the company.

(3) When we think our actions might conflict with the company's interests, we consult with the company in advance.

(4) We do not engage in political activities, such as joining a political party.

(5) In principle, we can accumulate professional experience and have training opportunities through external contributions, writing activities, etc., but we refrain from external requested manuscripts or broadcast appearances that may affect coverage and reporting.

(6) Activities such as paid broadcast appearances, external contributions, lectures, and participation in discussions must be reported to the company and done publicly.

(7) Holding concurrent positions is prohibited in principle. However, exceptions are made if permission is obtained from the company within a scope that does not affect fair reporting and duties.
