U.S. Vice President JD Vance announced on the 22nd (local time) that Iran has agreed to allow the re-entry of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspectors.

According to CNBC, Vice President Vance stated that the U.S. and Iran had a productive discussion despite difficult circumstances at the summit held in Bürgenstock, Switzerland.

"Iran has agreed to invite IAEA inspectors back into the country," Vance said. "This is an important milestone for the American people."

He added that the talks with Iran were "despite threats and animosity," but "negotiations continued, and we made significant progress."

Vance said the agreement to allow the dispatch of nuclear inspectors is the first step toward permanently dismantling Iran's nuclear weapons program.

The summit had been tense over the weekend after Iran announced it would close the Strait of Hormuz, claiming Israel's airstrikes in Lebanon violated a ceasefire agreement.

Vice President Vance announced that procedures are in place to prevent further escalation of tensions in the region.

"We want a regional ceasefire. We want Hezbollah to stop firing at Israel's allies. We want the Israeli people to live in peace. Also, we must ensure that whatever happens does not escalate into a larger conflict. So, we believe we have established a robust 'deconfliction mechanism'," he added.

Earlier, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi also stated that "significant progress" had been made at the summit.

Vance said a "very good foundation for a successful final agreement" has been laid, but there is "still a lot of work to do" to ensure smooth traffic flow, particularly regarding the clearing of mines in the Strait of Hormuz.

The Strait of Hormuz, which had been open since President Trump signed a memorandum of understanding on the 17th, saw shipping traffic suspended over the weekend after Iran announced its closure again, citing clashes between Israel and Hezbollah.

Vice President Vance revealed that Jared Kushner, President Donald Trump's son-in-law, along with Qatar, presented a "very interesting solution" whereby the U.S. would have approval rights over the process of releasing Iran's frozen assets.

Vance described it as a "classic Trump deal," adding, "If Iran's assets are unfrozen, those assets will be used to make American farmers richer and feed the Iranian people."

He added, "It's a truly excellent, classic Trump negotiation. It's good for our people, good for the Iranian people, and fundamentally contributes once again to the regional security architecture we have been building."
