On the 23rd (local time), U.S. President Donald Trump drew attention by making a joking remark about wanting to run for office again, despite being ineligible to do so.
Throughout his second term, Trump has occasionally hinted in a joking manner that he might seek a third term.
At an event held in Pennsylvania that day, Trump asked the crowd whether he should run again.
When he asked the crowd, "Should we run again? Should we do it one more time?", the crowd responded with cheers.
President Trump replied, "I would like to do that. I really want to do it."
According to the current 22nd Amendment to the Constitution, a president is limited to two terms and a maximum of ten years in office.
Theoretically, a vice president could serve two full terms after succeeding to the presidency in the second year of a president's term. This would mean serving a total of 10 years: two years after succeeding to the presidency, followed by two full terms of eight years.
However, since the 22nd Amendment was ratified in 1951, no president has actually done so.
Is it actually possible for Trump to have a third term by amending the Constitution?

In reality, it is completely impossible. To amend the Constitution, it requires a two-thirds majority in both the House and the Senate, and approval from at least 38 out of 50 states (three-fourths).
Some argue that it might be possible for President Trump to run as a running mate—that is, as vice president—in the next presidential election and then succeed to the presidency after being elected.
However, according to the BBC, the 12th Amendment stipulates that "no person constitutionally ineligible to the office of President shall be eligible to that of Vice-President of the United States," meaning President Trump is constitutionally ineligible to run in the next presidential election at all.
Another possibility is for President Trump to be elected Speaker of the House. In this scenario, if the next president and vice president were to resign, the Speaker of the House could assume the presidency according to the line of succession established by the 25th Amendment.
While this is the only scenario that appears theoretically possible, analysts suggest that if put into action, it would likely be embroiled in lawsuits that would lead to the Supreme Court ruling it unconstitutional.
