Detention hearing for an individual surnamed Kim, who spat at police during a protest blocking the Jamsil vote counting station [Photo by Yang Soo-yeon]
A woman in her 40s who cursed at and spat on police officers during a 'protest blocking the Jamsil vote counting station' has been arrested.
On the 25th, Seo Beom-jun, the presiding judge for warrants at the Seoul Eastern District Court, issued an arrest warrant for the individual surnamed Kim, who is accused of obstruction of justice, following a pre-detention interrogation (warrant review), stating that there is "a risk of flight and a possibility of recidivism."
Kim was arrested in flagrante delicto on the morning of the 23rd in front of gates 1-3 of the Olympic Park Handball Gymnasium in Songpa-gu, Seoul, after she asked a police officer managing the protest for their name, then spat on and cursed at them.
It is reported that Kim filmed the officers at the scene with her mobile phone, claiming she wanted to "verify if they were Korean police," and directed insults toward the officers' families.
A video that spread on social media following the incident shows the police officer slapping Kim immediately after she spat on them, which has sparked controversy.
After concluding the hearing at approximately 3:44 PM that day, Kim stated, "I was also assaulted and choked by the police," adding, "Everything is unfair."
In relation to this, the police are currently verifying the exact facts based on the circumstances before and after the arrest as well as the video footage, and plan to decide whether to launch an internal investigation later.

Citizens who spit will be investigated while detained, and police officers who slap will be subject to an audit.
We are concerned about the sinicization of the police into a public security style.
We hope the police recognize that this is a period similar to the June 29 democratization.
We hope the police do not walk the path of Chinese public security themselves.
We hope they remember the humiliation experienced by police who were henchmen of the dictatorial regime after democratization.
