(New York = Yonhap News) Correspondent Lee Ji-heon = U.S. President Donald Trump is reviewing a list of 11 candidates, including individuals previously rumored to be potential successors to Federal Reserve (Fed) Chairman Jerome Powell, CNBC reported on the 13th (local time), citing multiple anonymous officials.

According to the report, the initial shortlist for the next Fed chair includes David Zervos, Chief Market Strategist at investment bank Jefferies; Larry Lindsey, former Fed Governor; and Rick Rieder, Chief Investment Officer for Fixed Income at asset management firm BlackRock.

These three individuals were not previously mentioned as candidates for the next Fed chair.

Among the current Fed governors, three have been included in the candidate list: Vice Chair for Supervision Michelle Bowman, Governor Christopher Waller, and Vice Chair Philip Jefferson.

Mark Summerlin, who served as Deputy Assistant to the President for Economic Policy at the National Economic Council (NEC) during former President George W. Bush's administration; Lorie Logan, President of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas; and James Bullard, former President of the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, are also on the candidate list.

In addition, Kevin Hassett, Chairman of the White House National Economic Council, and Kevin Warsh, former Fed Governor, whom President Trump mentioned as potential chairs during an interview, are also considered strong candidates.

Treasury Secretary Scott Beckenridge was also considered a strong candidate, but he has been removed from the candidate pool after informing President Trump of his desire to continue as Treasury Secretary.

Subsequently, Secretary Beckenridge is leading the task of sifting through suitable candidates to recommend a final shortlist to President Trump.

CNBC explained that the fact that 11 candidates are being considered suggests that the final nomination of the next chair is not imminent.

President Trump has continuously pressed for the resignation of current Fed Chairman Powell, who has maintained interest rates despite Trump's calls for rate cuts. Powell's term as chair runs until May of next year.
