U.S. President Donald Trump launched a scathing attack on June 28 (local time) against Janice Lewis-George, the Democratic candidate who is the frontrunner in the race for mayor of Washington, D.C., ahead of the midterm elections this November.

In a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, President Trump wrote, "Janice Lewis-George, a communist who looks almost certain to be elected Mayor of Washington, D.C., has declared that she wants to empty the prisons, turn D.C. into a sanctuary city, bring criminal illegal aliens back into our beloved capital, resist efforts to combat crime, defund the police, continue and expand no-cash bail, and do many other things that would destroy our capital."

He continued, "Ultimately, that will never happen, and I won't even give it a chance to happen because I have worked too hard to make Washington, D.C. a city with almost no crime and a place envied by the world through beautification efforts that are second to none."

While noting that he would meet with candidate Lewis-George in person, President Trump emphasized, "We will not let this place be destroyed by a communist follower who has no intention of making Washington great again."

Lewis-George won the Democratic primary election held on the 16th to select a candidate for mayor of Washington, D.C. As Washington, D.C. is a traditional Democratic stronghold, winning the Democratic primary makes victory in the general election highly likely.

Lewis-George is a democratic socialist who represents the progressive wing of American politics, much like New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani. As a staunch advocate for the rights of workers and tenants, she holds political ideologies that are the polar opposite of President Trump's.

Immediately following Lewis-George's primary victory, President Trump had already thrown a strong warning shot, stating that the federal government could "take back Washington and run it like the federal government."

Meanwhile, on Sunday, President Trump toured Lafayette Park, the Reflecting Pool, and East Potomac Golf Course—areas in Washington, D.C. where he is pursuing beautification and redevelopment projects.

In another Truth Social post, he praised his own efforts, stating that "almost all the statues, monuments, and fountains are now in perfect condition after being completely renovated and restored following years of graffiti, defacement, and destruction."

President Trump also noted that while the Reflecting Pool had been significantly damaged by "America-hating criminals and radical-left destroyers," it is currently in normal operation. He added that after the 250th Independence Day celebration on July 4, "we will drain the water to repair the damage caused by the animals, and it will return to perfect condition."

Regarding the East Potomac Golf Course, he stated that construction is scheduled to begin on September 1, and that it "will not only meet the highest standards but will be designed to be loved by the general public."
