The United States and Iran have agreed to halt attacks against each other following several days of reciprocal airstrikes triggered by an Iranian military attack on merchant vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz, the U.S. online news outlet Axios reported on the 28th (local time).

Citing a senior U.S. official, the report stated that the official confirmed, "We have decided to cease all kinetic military operations."

Furthermore, both sides plan to meet in Doha, the capital of Qatar, on the 30th to resolve the dispute surrounding the Strait of Hormuz.

Axios explained that the U.S.-Iran meeting on the 30th was originally scheduled to be held in Switzerland to discuss Iran’s nuclear program. However, following Iran’s attack on civilian ships in the Strait of Hormuz on the 25th and the subsequent cycle of U.S. retaliatory airstrikes and Iranian counter-attacks, the venue was changed and the focus of the discussions shifted to the Strait of Hormuz.
