As of the 30th, the death toll from the series of powerful earthquakes that struck Venezuela on the 24th (local time) has surpassed 1,900.

However, this figure is based on recovered bodies, and the death toll is expected to rise further as search and rescue operations continue.

According to reports from foreign media outlets including Reuters and The New York Times (NYT), Venezuelan National Assembly Speaker Jorge Rodriguez stated in a speech that day that the officially confirmed death toll from the earthquakes currently stands at 1,943. This reflects an increase of 224 from the previous day's announcement.

The number of injured has reached 10,571, doubling from the figure reported the previous day (5,034).

Jennifer Moreno Canizales, spokesperson for the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Caracas, noted that the death toll is based on recovered bodies and that the number of victims is expected to continue to rise.

The NYT reported that "many more Venezuelans remain missing, and the chances of finding survivors are dwindling by the day," suggesting that the actual number of casualties could be significantly higher.

However, the newspaper added that there are currently no official statistics or reliable figures regarding those missing following the earthquakes in Venezuela.

Gianluca Rampolla del Tindaro, the UN Resident Coordinator in Venezuela who is leading relief efforts on the ground, stated in a video briefing the previous day that they are working with the Venezuelan government to secure 10,000 body bags in anticipation of a rise in the death toll.

Del Tindaro said, "This is based on a worst-case scenario, which is very unfortunate," adding, "I sincerely hope the actual number of victims is lower than that."

According to an unofficial count on a Venezuelan private website tracking earthquake-related missing persons, the number of individuals who remain unreachable reached approximately 42,000 as of today.

However, this is a self-reported count from a private site rather than an official figure confirmed by Venezuelan authorities, and it may include individuals who are safe but have simply lost contact with their families.
