The cumulative death toll from the recent series of earthquakes in Venezuela has surpassed 2,000, according to figures released on the 1st (local time).


According to foreign media reports, including AFP, Jorge Rodríguez, President of the National Assembly of Venezuela, announced that the officially confirmed death toll from the earthquake that struck on the 24th of last month has reached 2,295. This is an increase of 352 from the previous day.


The number of injured is reported to be 11,267.


As the human toll continues to rise, the Venezuelan government has declared a seven-day period of national mourning to honor the victims.


Acting President of Venezuela Delcy Rodríguez announced via Telegram that the week-long national mourning period would begin at 6 p.m. that day.


Acting President Rodríguez stated, "Venezuela’s soul is suffering an agonizing pain due to the loss of life caused by this devastating earthquake," in announcing the measure.
