Passengers experienced over two hours of inconvenience when a passenger plane en route to Incheon International Airport landed at Gimpo International Airport without prior notice.

According to Yonhap News on the 14th, AirAsia Flight D7 506, which departed from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and was scheduled to arrive at Incheon International Airport around 7:50 PM the previous day, circled over South Korean airspace before landing at Gimpo International Airport at approximately 8:08 PM, instead of Incheon International Airport.

Passengers stated that even though the captain announced they were arriving at Incheon International Airport, they could see it was Gimpo when looking out the window.

Mr. Kim (38) told Yonhap News, "When one passenger pointed out it was Gimpo International Airport (not Incheon), the flight attendants were surprised and asked the passengers instead," adding, "After realizing it was Gimpo, the flight attendants were flustered, and the passengers were already taking out their luggage, thinking they had arrived."

Kim added, "They said the reason for the emergency landing at Gimpo was 'due to turbulence' or 'due to insufficient fuel,' but there were no signs of refueling," and "There was no apology even when we finally arrived at Incheon (after taking off again)."

A video taken at the time, showing the cabin situation, captured an announcement from a flight attendant stating, "We have insufficient fuel. The landing at Gimpo International Airport is due to an emergency situation, and the captain is currently confirming the flight to Incheon International Airport."

Mr. Choi (44), Mr. Kim's husband, said, "There was no proper explanation given to the passengers about the emergency landing, such as the reason for the urgent landing or how many minutes it would take," and "It was quite unpleasant."

The aircraft remained at Gimpo International Airport for approximately two hours before taking off at around 10:17 PM and arriving at Incheon International Airport approximately 26 minutes later, at 10:43 PM.

An official from Korea Airports Corporation stated, "Due to strong winds at the time, we had to wait in the Incheon airspace, but due to insufficient fuel, we diverted to Gimpo International Airport for refueling."
