First Lady Kim Keon-hee, wife of former President Yoon Suk-yeol, is seen leaving the Seoul Central District Court in Seocho-gu, Seoul, on the 12th after a pre-arrest warrant interrogation (warrant examination). Yonhap News.
The first post-arrest investigation of First Lady Kim Keon-hee by Prosecutor General Min Joong-ki's special prosecution team concluded after approximately four hours. It was understood that Mrs. Kim refused to provide testimony for most of the charges.
At a press briefing on the afternoon of the 14th, Deputy Special Prosecutor Moon Hong-ju stated, "We conducted an investigation into the defendant, Kim Keon-hee, regarding allegations of undue election interference and nomination interference," adding, "The defendant has completed the investigation and is currently reviewing the written testimony."
Mrs. Kim arrived at the West Building of the KT Gwanghwamun Building in Jongno-gu, Seoul, where the special prosecution team's office is located, by escort vehicle at around 9:52 AM that day.
The morning investigation took place for two hours from 9:56 AM to 11:57 AM, and the afternoon investigation resumed at 1:32 PM, concluding approximately 40 minutes later at 2:10 PM.
The total investigation time, excluding breaks, was limited to 2 hours and 40 minutes.
Deputy Special Prosecutor Moon explained, "The defendant exercised her right to remain silent for most of the alleged offenses," and "The questions we prepared pertained to the nomination interference involving public opinion polls. We completed our questions on that aspect, and the investigation ended early because the defendant refused to provide testimony."
Deputy Special Prosecutor Moon stated that Mrs. Kim is scheduled to be summoned again for further investigation on the 18th, four days from now.
This is the second time Mrs. Kim has been investigated by the special prosecution team, following the investigation on the 6th. This is her first investigation since the arrest warrant was issued late on the 12th due to concerns about the destruction of evidence. The special prosecution team is reported to have focused its questions on the allegations of nomination interference by Myung Tae-gyun on this day.
