Micron has announced a massive domestic investment in the United States, just one day before the American Depositary Receipt (ADR) listing of SK Hynix.

On the 9th (local time), Micron stated that it would increase its total investment in U.S. fabs (semiconductor manufacturing plants) and technology to over $250 billion (approximately 375 trillion KRW) by 2035 to meet the surging demand for memory in the artificial intelligence (AI) era.

This investment covers the construction costs of the fab in Clay, New York, as well as expansion projects for fabs in states such as Idaho and Virginia.

Micron added that it had reached the milestone of the first concrete pour at its New York fab more than a quarter ahead of schedule.

Micron expects that these investments will support its goal of producing 40% of its DRAM domestically in the U.S. and will create more than 90,000 jobs across the country.

The Donald Trump administration has pledged to ensure that 40% of the world's semiconductors are produced within the United States by the end of its term, and Micron has aligned with this by declaring its own goal of producing 40% of its DRAM in the U.S.

Furthermore, Micron plans to invest up to $3 billion (4.5 trillion KRW) to strengthen the U.S. semiconductor supply chain ecosystem.

Of this amount, $500 million will be used to support the expansion of the Texas wafer manufacturing facility of GlobalWafers, a Taiwanese firm, in exchange for a 10-year long-term supply agreement.

CEO Sanjay Mehrotra emphasized, "As the United States approaches its 250th anniversary, data and memory have become the cornerstones of the modern economy. To keep pace with this era, we are expanding our U.S. investment to over $250 billion by 2035."

Micron had originally planned an investment of $170 billion in the U.S. Following the launch of the Trump administration, the company raised this to $200 billion in June of last year due to the explosive demand for High Bandwidth Memory (HBM), and has now increased it by another $50 billion.

This investment is interpreted as an effort to align with the policy stance of the Trump administration, which aims to revitalize the U.S. semiconductor industry.

Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick, who attended the concrete pouring ceremony at the New York fab hosted by CEO Mehrotra, said, "President Trump has made it clear that the U.S. is where you should conduct your business, and the world is responding rapidly. The 'Trumpian' economic model clearly demonstrates that there has never been a better time to invest in America."

In particular, Micron’s announcement, coming just one day before SK Hynix’s NASDAQ ADR listing on the 10th, is also seen as a move to check competitors in the memory sector, including those in the HBM market.

SK Hynix plans to raise approximately $26.5 billion (about 40 trillion KRW) through this listing.

Following the investment announcement, Micron’s stock price surged by more than 6% on the day. As of 1:10 p.m. Eastern Time, it was fluctuating around the $1,020 level, up more than 7% from the previous day's closing price.

Other semiconductor-related stocks, including Applied Materials, KLA, Lam Research, and ARM, also showed simultaneous gains of 6% to 11%.
