The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported on the 9th (local time) that Israel had obtained intelligence regarding an Iranian plot to assassinate U.S. President Donald Trump and shared it with the United States.

President Trump recently mentioned the Iranian assassination plot against him in public, and the report implies that Israel was the source of that information.

However, the WSJ did not disclose specific sources or the methods by which the intelligence was obtained.

The Israeli Embassy in Washington, D.C. declined to comment, and the Permanent Mission of Iran to the United Nations also did not respond to the WSJ's requests for comment.

In response to the WSJ's inquiry, the White House stated that it would refer to President Trump's remarks from the 8th.

Earlier on the 8th, while meeting with reporters at the NATO summit in Ankara, Turkey, President Trump said, "They (Iran) are trying to eliminate the leader of the U.S., which is me," adding, "I saw it again this morning, and my name was on all of their (assassination) lists."

Following the event, while returning home, President Trump transferred from an older Air Force One to a newer model at the Mildenhall Air Base in the United Kingdom before heading to the White House.

This led to speculation that the President may have switched planes mid-journey due to security concerns, including the assassination threat.

The intelligence regarding Iran's assassination plot is expected to have a significant impact on future U.S.-Iran relations.

The WSJ noted that with U.S.-Iran negotiations already on shaky ground, this assassination intelligence could serve as a catalyst for further deepening the conflict between the two nations.

For several years, Iran has publicly vowed to retaliate for the death of Qasem Soleimani, commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps' Quds Force, who was assassinated during President Trump's first term.

In particular, calls condemning President Trump in Iran have grown louder following the funeral of the former Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, who died on February 28th due to an attack by the U.S. and Israel.

Meanwhile, President Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a phone call on the 9th and agreed to continue bilateral cooperation across the Middle East region.

In a statement, the Israeli Prime Minister's Office said that President Trump shared the latest updates with Prime Minister Netanyahu regarding U.S. movements in the Persian Gulf.
