As reports circulate claiming that Donald Trump has "discarded" Gordon Chang, a prominent figure long celebrated in the MAGA camp for his anti-communist stance, public interest is intensifying regarding the accuracy of these claims.

This speculation stems from remarks made by President Trump on Monday the 6th, when he stated that Mr. Chang’s comments are "always so negative and not true." President Trump had previously criticized Mr. Chang in an interview with Fox News this past April, remarking that "he has no idea what he is talking about."

The entity most welcoming of these remarks and quickest to leverage them for an active diplomatic offensive is China.

On Thursday the 9th, China's state-run Global Times released a video on its YouTube channel asserting that President Trump has criticized Gordon Chang, noting that this marks the second time in three months that Trump has disparaged him.

The outlet pointed out, "Now that China and the U.S. are moving toward a more stable strategic relationship, everyone realizes how costly and useless such tactics are," adding, "The overall direction of China-U.S. relations is becoming increasingly clear. Cooperation benefits both sides, while conflict harms everyone."

The Global Times argued, "American society now views China much more objectively. It will soon realize the truth that fear-based narratives solve nothing. Ideological slogans cannot hide poor governance... Actions that push bilateral relations to the extreme will eventually be sidelined by reality."

Furthermore, the outlet aimed a direct shot at Mr. Chang, stating, "It is no coincidence that President Trump has repeatedly and publicly criticized Gordon Chang. It signals that they are in the business of making a living by spreading extreme anti-China discourse, and eventually, that business will be shut down."

However, contrary to the claims of Chinese state media, President Trump’s recent remarks do not significantly impact Mr. Chang’s standing.

This is because disagreements are a common occurrence in a democratic society.

Moreover, the expression "discarded" (implying he was expelled from an organization) is structurally invalid, given that Mr. Chang is not an official government appointee or staff member of the Trump administration.

If anything, this is being viewed merely as a typical propaganda tactic by the Communist Party to sow discord within the conservative camp.

In fact, such friction is a phenomenon that frequently occurs among conservative figures formerly classified as Trump's allies. However, the subsequent outcomes have varied for each individual.

Elon Musk famously clashed with Trump, even floating the idea of forming a third party, yet he later donated funds to support the Republican Party in this year's midterms and has made several gestures to reconcile with Trump.

Similarly, Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene turned against Trump over her disappointment with his pro-Israel policies; however, while Trump criticized her as being foolish, he also remarked that she simply didn't know better and would change over time.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis also displayed friction with President Trump, but he currently maintains a friendly stance. This past March, Governor DeSantis even signed a resolution renaming the Palm Beach International Airport to the Donald J. Trump International Airport.

President Trump’s comments regarding Mr. Chang merely indicate that the hardline, anti-CCP stance Mr. Chang has maintained for decades does not align with the specific China tactics Trump himself is pursuing; interpreting this as a severance of their relationship or an expulsion of Mr. Chang from the MAGA camp is a stretch.

It is true that Mr. Chang’s hardline rhetoric carries the risk of leading to negative consequences.

President Trump employs a strategy of pressuring China into a corner while simultaneously saving face for Xi Jinping; Mr. Chang’s arguments have often been so extreme that they occasionally hindered Trump's tactical approach.

However, given that a thorough anti-communist spirit currently serves as a new driving force for the Trump administration within the U.S., Gordon Chang—a self-proclaimed and widely recognized patriot and anti-communist—is expected to maintain his influence in the United States.
