The U.S. military launched new airstrikes against Iranian missile and air defense systems on the 12th (local time), according to Barak Ravid, a reporter for the U.S. online media outlet Axios.
The reporter wrote on his X (formerly Twitter) account, "A U.S. official said the U.S. military carried out several strikes on (Iranian) missile and air defense systems an hour ago."
The reporter added that the U.S. military also struck several small vessels belonging to the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in areas around the Strait of Hormuz. The "small vessels" appear to refer to the small, fast attack craft that the IRGC has been using to target civilian ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
This marks the second consecutive day that the U.S. military has struck Iranian targets. Based on the timing of the reporter's post on X, the U.S. strikes are estimated to have occurred at approximately 11:20 a.m. Eastern Time.
This is the fourth time the U.S. military has struck Iranian military targets in response to Iran's resumption of attacks on civilian vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz since the 7th.
In this regard, Iranian state news agency IRNA reported that an Iranian official stated that 10 to 11 shells from an "enemy" landed on Qeshm Island this evening. However, the official noted that the targets of the attack were military facilities and that there were no casualties.
Qeshm Island, located in the Strait of Hormuz, houses Iranian military radar surveillance bases and has become a primary target as tensions between the United States and Iran have recently reignited.
