South Korean golf prodigy Tom Kim has broken his long silence, rising to the top of the leaderboard at the PGA Tour Genesis Scottish Open (total prize purse of $9 million).

On the final day of the tournament held at The Renaissance Club (par 70) in North Berwick, Scotland, on the 13th (local time), Kim delivered a flawless performance, carding six birdies with no bogeys in the fourth round.

Finishing with a total of 17-under-par 263, Kim secured the victory, finishing two strokes ahead of Korean-Australian Min Woo Lee (15-under-par 265).

After struggling in a slump following his win at the Shriners Children's Open in October 2023, Kim added to his win tally after 33 months. At 24, he has now secured four career PGA Tour titles and earned a winner's check of $1.62 million (£1.2 million, approx. 2.4 billion KRW).

Having signaled his return to form with a solo third-place finish at the major US Open in June, Kim will now aim for victory at the British Open, which kicks off on the 16th.

With this win, Kim also secured a spot in next year's Masters Tournament and earned 500 FedExCup points, climbing to 32nd in the rankings.

Due to the tournament being delayed by fog, Kim had to play the remaining holes of his third round and all 18 holes of the fourth round consecutively.

Starting the fourth round tied for 4th place, one stroke behind the leader, Kim shaved three strokes off his score on the front nine and took a two-stroke solo lead after sinking a 4.5-meter birdie putt on the 10th hole (par 4).

He added another birdie on the 12th hole (par 5) by sticking his third shot within 1.8 meters of the hole, and moved closer to victory by gaining another stroke on the 16th hole (par 4).

Although he missed the green with his second shot on the 18th hole (par 4), he chipped onto the green and finished with a par putt.

Kim, who captured the world's attention with his first PGA Tour victory at the Wyndham Championship in 2022, had been enduring a difficult time without a win since the 2023 Shriners Children's Open.

Tearing up during the trophy presentation after his win, Kim said, "I've had a tough few years and tasted the bitterness of defeat many times," adding, "I am still trying to grow and continue to learn."

Fellow Korean golfer Si Woo Kim shot 4-under on the final day, finishing in a tie for 9th place at 11-under-par 269.

World No. 2 Rory McIlroy (Northern Ireland) chased Kim by firing a 6-under-par round, but due to a sluggish 73 the previous day, he finished the tournament in a tie for 7th place (12-under-par 268). [Yonhap News]
