War of words over court testimony… Han Dong-hoon stays silent on 'party-founding rumors'
Rep. Ahn Cheol-soo attending the meeting between the People Power Party floor leader and four-to-five-term senior lawmakers (Seoul=Yonhap News) Reporter Shin Hyun-woo = Rep. Ahn Cheol-soo of the People Power Party attends a meeting held at the National Assembly on the 13th between People Power Party floor leader Jeong Jeom-sik and four-to-five-term lawmakers. 2026.7.13 nowwego@yna.co.krPeople Power Party Rep. Ahn Cheol-soo criticized the pro-Han (pro-Han Dong-hoon) faction, which is engaged in a dispute over his court testimony regarding the circumstances of the December 3rd emergency martial law, stating, "I have seen many people who, despite supporting Rep. Han Dong-hoon, became fed up and distanced themselves because of these 'wreckers.'"
In a Facebook post that day, Rep. Ahn said, "If Rep. Han intends to found a new party, I advise him to exclude the pro-Han 'Yeouido wreckers,'" and added the aforementioned remarks.
A "wrecker" refers to an act or a person who spreads distorted evaluations or disparaging messages about specific issues or individuals online or on social media.
Recently, while appearing as a witness in the trial of Daegu Mayor Choo Kyung-ho (the People Power Party floor leader at the time of the martial law) on charges of obstructing the vote to lift the emergency martial law, Rep. Ahn testified, "I understand that the person who first notified People Power Party lawmakers to gather at the party headquarters instead of the National Assembly was then-party leader Han Dong-hoon." Following this, he faced criticism from Rep. Han and the pro-Han faction.
In response, Rep. Ahn held a press conference on the 12th, where he again criticized Rep. Han, saying, "I hope you never show your face in our party again," which has led to an ongoing dispute with the pro-Han faction. He continued the war of words that day by labeling the pro-Han faction, which has been issuing aggressive messages, as "wreckers."
Rep. Ahn remarked directly, "After finishing the press conference, I calmly observed the situation. Sure enough, the behavior of those acting as self-proclaimed proxies for Rep. Han and speaking out was absurd."
He continued, "There are even base individuals who worked with me but now fiercely defend Rep. Han, and their act of concocting fictions—like claiming 'someone ordered the press conference' based on delusions—is even pathetic."
He further added, "That pathetic 'Yeouido wrecker' behavior could one day drive Rep. Han into a dead end," warning that "as long as the 'wreckers' shouting for 'pro-Han' remain positioned by Rep. Han's side, the 'resentment' of those bitten and scratched by them will eventually bring 'Han (Dong-hoon)' down."
Rep. Han previously criticized Rep. Ahn's court testimony as "false agitation," but he has not responded separately to Rep. Ahn's attacks since then.
He has also remained silent regarding recent remarks by Cho Gap-je, head of ChoGapje.com and a conservative commentator close to him, who hinted at the possibility of founding a new party during a YTN radio broadcast.
However, figures in the pro-Han faction have distanced themselves from the rumors of a new party, with Rep. Jeong Sung-kook stating, "The letter 'C' (for 'changdang' or founding a party) hasn't even been mentioned," and Rep. Han Ji-ah noting, "Rep. Han has said he would return (to the People Power Party) at any time, and many lawmakers are working to create the soil for that to happen." [Yonhap News]
