  • Joint Statement of Opposition… "In the Era of Advanced Technology, Is It Truly Necessary to Gather Everyone in One Place for Education?"

Rally against the integration of military academiesA rally against the consolidation of the Army, Navy, and Air Force academies and the relocation of the Korea Military Academy was held on the steps in front of the main building of the National Assembly on the 8th.
The general alumni associations of the Army, Navy, and Air Force academies issued a statement on the 16th opposing the government’s recently announced basic plan for the establishment of a National Military Academy, calling it "a scheme to sever the history and traditions, as well as the unique identity, of each military academy."

In a joint statement released that day, the alumni associations argued, "Even though reform could be achieved through large-scale facility investment, organizational restructuring, and institutional changes while maintaining the existing framework of each military academy, the government intends to close down the current Army, Navy, and Air Force academies."

Addressing the government’s claim that integration is necessary to cultivate a shared identity as national armed forces, the associations retorted, "In this era of advanced science and technology, are we really saying that we must gather everyone in one place to instill a national military identity?"

They also asserted that the relocation of the Korea Military Academy from Hwarangdae in Taereung for the purpose of integration is "a classic act of retaliation driven by political calculations."

The alumni associations added, "We will mobilize all possible means and methods to rise up in a general struggle together with the public," and warned that "the government will be held responsible for any unfortunate situations or incidents that arise from this struggle, as they have turned a deaf ear to the voice of the people."
