A man in his 60s accused of assaulting police officers while attempting to enter the 'Jamsil vote-counting station' during a National Assembly parliamentary audit committee visit has been indicted while in custody.
According to legal circles on the 16th, the Seoul Eastern District Prosecutors' Office indicted the man, identified as A, on charges of obstruction of justice the previous day.
A is charged with assaulting police officers by pushing them as they were removing protesters who were blocking the committee's entry into the Jamsil vote-counting station at the Olympic Park Handball Gymnasium in Songpa-gu, Seoul, around 1:10 p.m. on the 2nd.
The police, who apprehended A at the scene, requested an arrest warrant, which the Seoul Eastern District Court issued on the 4th, citing concerns that he might flee.
This marks the second indictment related to the Jamsil vote-counting station protests.
On the 7th, a woman in her 40s, surnamed Kim, became the first participant to be indicted after she was accused of spitting on a police officer on the 23rd of last month after asking for their name.
Kim was arrested on the 25th of last month on charges including filming on-site police officers with her mobile phone while claiming she wanted to "verify if they were Korean police" and hurling verbal abuse at the officers' families. [Yonhap News]
