As heavy rain warnings were issued for parts of the Daegu and Gyeongbuk regions on the 17th, a series of rain-related incidents occurred, including road closures and a surge in reports of flood damage.

In Suseong-gu, Daegu, 31.5mm of rain fell in just 15 minutes, triggering the first-ever issuance of the newly introduced "Emergency Disaster Alert for Torrential Rain."

In Gyeongbuk, damage continued to mount as underpasses flooded, leaving vehicles stranded and residents needing rescue from submerged homes.

The city of Daegu has received over 100 reports of flooding, with incidents concentrated primarily in the Jisan-dong and Beommul-dong areas of Suseong-gu.

According to the Daegu Regional Meteorological Administration, the city recorded a total daily rainfall of 111.6mm. In Jisan 1-dong, 31.5mm of rain fell in just 10 minutes, with the intensity reaching 89mm per hour, bringing the total daily precipitation to 183.5mm.

Consequently, the Daegu Regional Meteorological Administration issued the emergency disaster alert for torrential rain at approximately 10:10 PM that day.

The emergency disaster alert, introduced this year, is issued when 100mm of cumulative rainfall is observed within one hour, or when 85mm of cumulative rainfall in one hour and 25mm in 15 minutes are observed simultaneously.

At approximately 10:20 PM, the city of Daegu closed access to Sincheon-dong Road in both directions due to concerns over flooding.

Earlier, at approximately 10:05 PM, a driver was rescued from a vehicle stranded on the flooded Sincheon-dong Road.

Additionally, at 10:12 PM, another driver was rescued from a vehicle stranded at a hospital near Sincheon-dong Road.

Around 8:13 PM, strong winds and heavy rain caused a tree to fall onto a high-voltage line, causing a power outage for approximately 400 households in Sincheon-dong and Sinam-dong, Dong-gu. KEPCO began emergency repairs, restoring power by approximately 10:00 PM, about two hours later.

A Daegu city official stated, "There are flooded roads in various places due to the heavy rain," adding, "While we have received reports of damage such as flooded commercial buildings, no casualties have been reported so far."

Daegu has elevated its emergency response to Level 2 for the heavy rain warning and is actively addressing the situation.

Gimcheon, Gyeongbuk, where a heavy rain warning is in effect, recorded 107.5mm of precipitation for the day, with the peak hourly rainfall reaching 72mm at 7:42 PM.

The city also blocked access to Yongjeon Underpass, Sinchon Underpass, the under-road bridge at Gyodong Bridge, and the Pyeonghwa Railway Bridge at 8:28 PM, though traffic has since resumed at the Sinchon Underpass and Pyeonghwa Railway Bridge.

Daily precipitation reached 110.5mm in Gyeongsan and 88.5mm in Gumi, Gyeongbuk.

In North Gyeongbuk Province, a total of 72 reports of damage were filed, including 1 rescue operation, 42 reports of road hazards, 13 flooded homes, and 3 landslides.

In Gumi, a family of four stranded by flooding in their home was rescued by fire department rescue teams and evacuated to safety.

Gyeongbuk Province has activated Level 1 of its emergency disaster response headquarters to prepare for further damage.

Currently, heavy rain advisories are in effect for 11 locations across Daegu and Gyeongbuk, with heavy rain warnings active for central Daegu and the cities of Gumi and Gyeongsan in Gyeongbuk.

The Daegu Regional Meteorological Administration forecasts an additional 50–100mm of rain, with up to 150mm in some areas, through the 19th.

An official from the Daegu Regional Meteorological Administration said, "Rain is expected to continue for some time even after the heavy downpours end on the 19th."
