The KOSPI fell by more than 5% in early trading on the 28th, triggering a sell-side sidecar.

Due to the sharp decline, a sell-side sidecar—a temporary suspension of program sell orders—was triggered in succession for both the KOSPI and KOSDAQ markets early in the session. Subsequently, circuit breakers were also activated in both markets.
The KOSPI closed at 6,023.66, down 732.09 points (10.84%) from the previous day.
According to the Korea Exchange, this marks the second-largest point decline in KOSPI history. The largest drop was recorded on the 23rd of last month (-910.71 points).
The index opened at 6,400.27, down 355.48 points (5.26%) from the previous trading day, and further expanded its losses to hit an intraday low of 5,992.91 (-11.29%), briefly falling below the 6,000-point mark.
However, it trimmed some of its losses afterward, ending the session back above the 6,000-point level.
The KOSDAQ index closed at 705.85, down 59.01 points (7.72%).
During the session, the index dipped to as low as 697.45 (-8.81%), briefly breaking below the 700-point threshold for the first time in 15 months, since April 16 of last year.
