Director of National Intelligence (DNI) Tulsi Gabbard announced Tuesday that her office has revoked the security clearances of 37 current and former intelligence officials.

In a statement posted on X, Gabbard said the action was taken at the direction of President Donald Trump. She alleged that those affected "betrayed the public's trust by politicizing and weaponizing intelligence, leaking classified information without authorization, and knowingly violating core security standards."

Gabbard wrote, "Possessing a security clearance is not a right, it is a privilege. Those in the intelligence community who have betrayed their oath to the Constitution and prioritized their own interests over the interests of the American people have broken the sacred trust they promised to uphold. In doing so, they undermine our national security, the safety and security of the American people, and the fundamental principles of a democratic republic."

Gabbard added that the decision is intended to ensure the intelligence community remains "laser-focused on its mission to uphold the values and principles enshrined in the U.S. Constitution and ensure the safety, security, and freedom of the American people."

The Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) did not immediately release the names of those whose security clearances were revoked or details about their roles. It also remains unclear if any of those affected still hold current positions within the federal government.

Gabbard, a former Democratic presidential candidate in the 2020 election, took over as DNI earlier this year. Since taking office, she has stated her commitment to strengthening accountability and restoring trust within the intelligence agencies.

Tuesday's announcement marks the first significant revocation of security clearances during her tenure. The move comes as debates continue in Washington about how intelligence assessments are handled and to what extent political considerations influence their use.
