The State Department announced on Thursday (21st) that it is reviewing the records of over 55 million foreign nationals holding U.S. visas to investigate potential immigration violations that could lead to cancellation or deportation.

In a written response to questions posed by the Associated Press, the department stated that all U.S. visa holders undergo "continuous screening" to determine if there are any disqualifying indicators on their documentation.

If such information is discovered, the visa will be revoked, and the visa holder will be subject to deportation if they are in the United States.

The department indicated that it is looking for disqualifying indicators including, but not limited to, overstaying visa periods, criminal activity, threats to public safety, involvement in any form of terrorist activities, and support for terrorist organizations.

"As part of our screening, we review all available information, including law enforcement or immigration records, and any other information indicating potential ineligibility after visa issuance," the department stated.
