FBI agents raided the Washington D.C. home of former national security adviser to President Trump John Bolton on Friday morning, conducting a significant investigation into national security matters, the New York Post (NYP) reported.

The NYP cited Trump administration officials who said federal agents raided Bolton's home in Bethesda, Maryland, beginning at 7 a.m. on the orders of FBI Director Kash Patel.

Patel wrote on X (formerly Twitter) shortly after the raid began: "No one is above the law... FBI agents are doing their jobs."

Attorney General Pam Bondi posted on X: "America’s safety is non-negotiable. Justice will be served. Always."

FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino also wrote: "Public corruption will not be tolerated."

The investigation, reportedly involving classified documents, began years ago but was suspended by the Biden administration for "political reasons," according to a senior federal official.

Bolton's X account blasted out messages criticizing Trump's approach to Russia's war in Ukraine at 7:32 a.m., while FBI agents were at his home. It is unclear if these posts were scheduled, the NYP added.

Bolton posted on X: "Russia has not changed its objective of annexing Ukraine into a new Russian empire. Moscow demanded Ukraine cede territories it already occupies and the rest of Donetsk it has not conquered. Zelenskyy will never do that. Meanwhile, talks will continue because Trump wants a Nobel Peace Prize, but I do not see these talks making any headway."

Bolton has previously been accused of including classified information in his 2020 book, "The Room Where It Happened."

President Trump sought to block the book's publication, arguing it contained classified national secrets, and that Bolton had violated a nondisclosure agreement he signed as a condition of employment. Those efforts ultimately failed.

The Justice Department began its investigation into the book in September 2020, during Trump's first term.

Bolton has since fallen out with Trump and has been a frequent guest on cable news, criticizing the president's national security and foreign policies.

The news of the raid comes one day after Patel disclosed that former FBI Director James Comey authorized the leak of classified documents in 2016, "misleading Congress."

The raid on Bolton's home comes as the Trump administration has taken steps to investigate figures seen as political opponents of the Republican president, including authorizing a grand jury investigation into the origins of the Trump-Russia probe.

Authorities are also pursuing mortgage fraud investigations against Democratic Senator Adam Schiff of California, who filed a civil fraud lawsuit against Trump and his company, and New York Attorney General Letitia James, while former Trump prosecutor Jack Smith is being investigated by an independent watchdog. Schiff and James have strongly denied any wrongdoing through their attorneys.
