South Korean Steel Exports to the U.S. Plummet Amidst U.S. Tariff Hikes (Pyeongtaek = Yonhap News) Reporter Hong Ki-won = South Korea's steel exports to the U.S. in July plummeted by over 25% compared to the same period last year, influenced by U.S. tariff increases. Concerns are growing that the impact of tariffs will spread not only within the steel industry but across the entire export sector, as the U.S. recently expanded the scope of its 50% tariff to 407 types of derivative products, following an increase in its import steel tariff from 25% to 50%. According to the Korea International Trade Association on the 24th, South Korea's steel exports to the U.S. in July amounted to $283.41 million, a 25.9% decrease from $382.55 million in the same period last year.
