It has been revealed that Ted Scott, the caddie for world number one golfer Scottie Scheffler of the United States, was absent from the first two FedEx Cup Playoff events due to a severe injury to his nephew.
On the 25th (Korean time), Scott announced via social media ahead of the final round of the Tour Championship, the final playoff event, that he was unable to caddie for Scheffler due to his nephew Joel's injury.
Scott left the venue after the third round of the FedEx St. Jude Championship, the first playoff event, stating only that 'a family emergency had occurred.'
Scheffler had a close pastor caddie for him during the fourth round of the FedEx St. Jude Championship.
When Scott did not return for the second playoff event, Scheffler hired another temporary caddie and secured another victory.
Scott, who returned as Scheffler's caddie for the final playoff event, wrote, "(My nephew's injury) was perhaps the hardest thing I've ever been through in my entire life. I could only watch my family grieve for the injured person," adding, "There is hope."
However, he did not explain the reason or the severity of nephew Joel's injury.
Players and caddies participating in the Tour Championship wore yellow ribbons on their hats to wish Scott's nephew Joel a speedy recovery.
In the Tour Championship, where Scott returned, Scheffler competed for the win but finished in a tie for fourth place (14-under-par 266), four strokes behind the winner Tommy Fleetwood of England.
