The National Intelligence Service (NIS) National AI Security Center announced on the 28th that it held a policy briefing on artificial intelligence (AI) security in the public sector for approximately 800 information security officers from national and public agencies.

The NIS explained that the event, held the previous day at the Korea Railroad Corporation in Daejeon, was organized to support the safe adoption of AI, as security threats such as internal data leaks continue to rise alongside the fact that roughly 190 out of over 300 major national and public institutions have already adopted or are utilizing AI technology.

The event included presentations and feedback sessions regarding the current status of AI technology adoption and management in the public sector, security review procedures for AI-based IT projects, and plans for supplementing AI security guidelines and refining related policies.

In particular, the Center shared response strategies for various AI security threat scenarios based on recent on-site inspections of AI operations at certain agencies, and urged institutions to conduct self-inspections and strengthen security measures for their AI systems.

An NIS official stated, "We will continue to strengthen communication with the field by operating a security consulting channel for AI-driven IT projects in national and public agencies, and we will proactively improve our AI security policies." Yonhap News
