I am writing down my humble thoughts on President Lee Jae-myung's summit meetings with the United States and Japan.
President Lee Jae-myung concluded his summit meetings with Japan and the United States in a short period. In fact, Lee Jae-myung has seemingly overcome the significant hurdle of Trump, the "great mountain," without any particular incident, at the cost of dedicating hundreds of billions of South Korea's assets.
However, from my perspective, Lee Jae-myung's recent summit with the U.S. was not an equal dialogue between heads of sovereign states, but a deeply shameful "begging summit" where he gave away the nation's assets and even his own guts and gall. There was no dignity or national stature for South Korea on the table during this summit with the U.S.
It was with such shame and desperation that Lee Jae-myung barely received presidential recognition from Trump. This is the current state of South Korea, dominated by pro-North Korea and pro-China forces. Yet, some media outlets, without any sense of shame, loudly sang praises for Lee Jae-myung like summer cicadas.
Of course, if one looks at it without much thought, it might seem that Lee Jae-myung smoothly concluded his meetings with the U.S. and Japanese leaders. However, Lee Jae-myung made two major mistakes.
First, cornered in his talks with Trump, Lee Jae-myung hastily proceeded with the summit with Japan. In doing so, he silenced anti-Japan organizations in Korea and those loyal to North Korea's directives, cutting off their livelihood.
Lee Jae-myung likely did not want to go to Japan. However, to appear favorable to Trump, he had no choice but to go to Japan first. Then, setting aside all the highly sensitive historical issues between South Korea and Japan, he made only formal greetings and flew to the United States.
As a result, individuals like Yoon Mi-hyang, who had been profiting from anti-Japan activism and demanding ransom by receiving directives from North Korea, were left speechless. Those who performed elaborate shows bowing to the comfort women statues are now like dogs chasing after a thrown stick. What could they say when Lee Jae-myung, whom the pro-North Korea and pro-China leftists had heavily relied on and elevated, betrayed them and put an end to South Korea-Japan relations?
How much must North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, who had been instigating anti-Japan sentiment among South Korean leftists from behind the scenes and creating discord in South Korea-Japan relations, resent Lee Jae-myung now?
That's not all. Lee Jae-myung received a massive "gift" from Trump, proposing to make the Pyeongtaek U.S. military base "permanently U.S. soil," and handed it over to anti-American activists like Jeong Cheong-rae. Lee Jae-myung, whose administration was built on anti-American rhetoric, committed a truly great betrayal this time.
Second, in an attempt to evade Trump's sharp criticism, Lee Jae-myung committed an act of betrayal against his most respected and revered master, Kim Jong-un.
In fact, the person who watched the South Korea-U.S.-Japan summit with the greatest interest was Kim Jong-un and Kim Yo-jong. As soon as Lee Jae-myung became president, he abolished broadcasts to North Korea and engaged in all sorts of flattery. However, Kim Jong-un treated Lee Jae-myung coldly and as a fool. This was a terrifying warning, indicating that he would watch how Lee Jae-myung would manage relations with the United States going forward.
Yet, Lee Jae-myung groveled before Trump and begged him to meet Kim Jong-un. Furthermore, he flattered Trump by suggesting, "Let's build Trump World in North Korea and play golf there." How infuriated must Kim Jong-un have been?
Of course, those who do not know Kim Jong-un well might see Lee Jae-myung's proposal as a brilliant idea. However, Kim Jong-un's perspective is different.
Kim Yo-jong dismissed Lee Jae-myung's sycophantic gestures on August 19th as "delusions and a pipe dream." Yet, for someone like Lee Jae-myung to dare to arrange a North Korea-U.S. summit without the approval of the "Supreme Dignity" is truly shameful. This is because Lee Jae-myung is not Kim Jong-un's special envoy. He is merely a self-proclaimed loyalist with no real standing.
Moreover, for Lee Jae-myung to presumptuously suggest building U.S. hotels in North Korea and playing golf there without Kim Jong-un's approval – how could Kim Jong-un possibly be pleased? The immature Lee Jae-myung, while trying to be loyal to both Trump and Kim Jong-un in his own way, has instead committed a grave sin by deeply offending Kim Jong-un's pride.
Some people say that Lee Jae-myung's arrangement for a U.S.-North Korea summit was a good thing. This shows a lack of understanding of Kim Jong-un. Kim Jong-un, who was humiliated after being deceived by Moon Jae-in and traveling to Hanoi only to suffer disgrace, still harbors resentment. And the Kim Jong-un of today is not the Kim Jong-un of the era before nuclear weapons, a fact that must be kept in mind.
Yet, Lee Jae-myung, who could not utter a single word to Trump when asked to make the Pyeongtaek base U.S. territory, far from withdrawing U.S. troops which North Korea detests the most – how could Kim Jong-un see Lee Jae-myung as a person? This time, Lee Jae-myung committed a wrong by betraying his comrades who supported him, Kim Jong-un, and even China.
His flattery, intended to preserve his presidential position, has ultimately become a noose around his own neck. Before long, Kim Yo-jong's vulgar insults, which are even difficult to bear hearing, will once again bring shame to the South Korean people.
