People Power Party Leader Jang Dong-hyuk said on the 29th, in response to President Lee Jae-myung's directive to pursue a meeting with the leaders of the ruling and opposition parties to explain the outcomes of the South Korea-U.S. summit, "This time, even if it's in that format, he should state his position on when he will set aside time again to meet with the leader of the main opposition party."
Speaking to reporters after the closing of the National Assembly Members' Workshop at the Incheon International Airport Corporation Aviation Training Center on the same day, Leader Jang emphasized, "As a significant concession, the leaders of the ruling and opposition parties can meet with the President to discuss the outcomes of the South Korea-U.S. summit, but afterward, there must be time for the President and the leader of the main opposition party to have a separate meeting and have a serious discussion about the lives of the people."
This is interpreted to mean that if a separate meeting with President Lee is guaranteed later, he can meet with President Lee along with the leader of the ruling party to share the outcomes of the South Korea-U.S. summit.
He argued, "Regarding what outcomes were achieved at the summit, if the agreement document or fact sheet is disclosed to the public, there is no need to explain the outcomes separately. That is the most reliable method and the best way to persuade and reassure the public."
He added, "Calling the leader of the main opposition party along with the leader of the ruling party to explain the summit's outcomes is not, I believe, intended to jointly examine the lives of the people during this difficult time."
