The Trump administration continues to engage in trade negotiations with countries around the world, even after a U.S. appeals court ruled that the "reciprocal tariffs" imposed by the U.S. government on countries including South Korea lack legal basis, it was revealed on the 31st (local time).

In an interview with Fox News on the same day, U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) Jamieson Greer said, "Our trade partners continue to consult with us very closely regarding (trade) negotiations."

He added, "People are moving forward with their respective negotiations regardless of what the courts decide in the interim."

While Greer did not name specific negotiating countries, he revealed that he spoke with a trade minister on the morning of the previous day.

Earlier, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit effectively put a halt to President Trump's tariff policy on the 29th, ruling 7-4 that tariffs are not included in the president's statutory authority.

This decision will not take effect until October 14, and if the Trump administration appeals this ruling, the legality of the tariff policy will be finally decided by the Supreme Court.

President Trump immediately expressed his opposition to the appeals court ruling and announced his intention to appeal to the Supreme Court.

Since taking office in January, President Trump has used the imposition of tariffs as leverage to exert political pressure on various countries, while simultaneously demanding improvements in trade unfairness and conducting trade negotiations after imposing reciprocal tariffs.

On August 30, South Korea reached a broad agreement with the U.S. government to lower the existing reciprocal tariff rate of 25% imposed on South Korea to 15%, conditional on a $350 billion investment in the U.S. and the purchase of approximately $100 billion worth of American energy. This was reaffirmed during the South Korea-U.S. summit on August 25.
