The People Power Party announced on the 31st that it has nominated Assemblyman Jeong Hee-yong (Goryeong, Seongju, Chilgok, Gyeongsangbuk-do) and Assemblyman Kim Do-eup (Gangseo, Busan) as Secretary-General and Chairman of the Policy Committee, respectively.

Choi Bo-yoon, the senior spokesperson for the People Power Party, announced these party leadership appointments to reporters at the National Assembly on this day.

The Secretary-General is a key position overseeing the overall party operations, including finance and personnel rights, while the Chairman of the Policy Committee leads discussions on policy and election pledges.

With this appointment, three out of the 'Four Key Party Leaders'—the party leader, floor leader, secretary-general, and chairman of the policy committee—will have constituencies in the Yeongnam region. Party Leader Jang Dong-hyuk's constituency is Boryeong-Seocheon in Chungcheongnam-do, and Floor Leader Song Eon-seok's is Gimcheon in Gyeongsangbuk-do.

Assemblyman Jeong, a second-term lawmaker who previously worked as a parliamentary aide, served as the chief of staff for former Floor Leader Choo Kyung-ho, who belonged to the former pro-Yoon faction.

Last year, he served as floor spokesperson and senior spokesperson and is considered part of the established mainstream within the party.

Park Seong-hoon, the senior spokesperson, evaluated him by stating, "The Secretary-General has been appointed with our party's firm direction of achieving victory in the upcoming local elections in mind," and added, "He is the right person to lead the victory in the local elections next year, as he best understands the party leader's philosophy."

Assemblyman Kim, a four-term lawmaker, is considered to have a less pronounced factional affiliation. Having served as Chairman of the Policy Committee in 2021, this will be his second term in the position.

Choi, the senior spokesperson, described Kim as "a person who has deeply considered livelihood policies," explaining that "he possesses sufficient expertise to counter anti-economy and anti-democracy policies of the government and the ruling party, and he is the right person to rationally coordinate sensitive agendas across classes, generations, and regions in the policy field."

The Secretary-General will be appointed after consultation with the Supreme Council, and the Chairman of the Policy Committee will be appointed after ratification by the general assembly of lawmakers.

It is known that Party Leader Jang will take his time to review further party leadership appointments, such as nominated Supreme Council members and the director of the Yeouido Institute.

Along with these party leadership appointments, the People Power Party also established a 'Future Strategy Council' on this day, where the party leader, floor leader, and chairman of the policy committee will gather to discuss policies and strategies.

Meanwhile, Jeon Han-gil, who supported Party Leader Jang during the party's national convention, stated on his YouTube channel 'Jeon Han-gil News' that "Because the party leader is influenced by me, people think Jeon Han-gil has strong power, so requests for personnel appointments and nominations for candidates in the upcoming local elections are flooding in. I will not take on such a role as it puts a burden on the party leader."
