  • Song Eon-seok: "Suspected that Speaker Woo gave prior approval for the special counsel's search and seizure"

People Power Party Supreme Council Meeting beginsPeople Power Party leader Jang Dong-hyeok and floor leader Song Eon-seok are beginning the Supreme Council meeting at the National Assembly on the 4th. Yonhap News.

People Power Party leader Jang Dong-hyeok stated on the 4th regarding the Special Counsel team led by Cho Eun-seok continuing its attempts to raid the party's floor leader's office within the main National Assembly building, "Those who thrive by special counsel will inevitably perish by special counsel."

During the Supreme Council meeting at the National Assembly that day, Jang referred to the special counsel as a "special dog" (特犬, meaning a special kind of dog), stating, "The special dog is always ready to bite its master. Even if the scales of power tip by just one degree, the sword of the special counsel will immediately turn toward the master's heart."

He asserted, "Today, the Legislation and Judiciary Committee is scheduled to pass outrageous bills that would extend the special counsel's term, establish a special judicial panel, and even censor trials," adding, "They are trying to extend the special counsel that began last winter and establish a special judicial panel to conduct a kangaroo court because it is obvious that the current trial will result in an acquittal."

Regarding the special counsel team's seizure of a party administrative staff member's mobile phone, floor leader Song Eon-seok said, "Is it even fathomable to seize a mobile phone before the person can even call their attorney?" He added, "I want to make it clear that evidence obtained through illegal searches and seizures cannot be used in future investigations or trials."

He also commented on the special counsel team's entry into the main National Assembly building the previous day, stating, "Reasonable suspicion is being raised that National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-shik, despite claiming verbally that voluntary submission is the preferable method, may have pre-approved the search and seizure before departing for China."

Previously, Special Counsel Cho Eun-seok seized the mobile phone of an administrative staff member the day before in connection with suspicions regarding former People Power Party floor leader Choo Kyung-ho's alleged 'obstruction of the lifting of martial law,' and is currently attempting to search the floor leader's office and administrative office within the National Assembly building.

The People Power Party has requested that Speaker Woo deny the search and seizure of the floor leader's office and the administrative office, and is demanding that the special counsel execute the warrant through a voluntary submission of materials following consultation.
