The community is in shock after James Choi (Korean name: Choi Joon-chul), 52, a dentist who had practiced in Atlanta's Koreatown for over 20 years, his wife (52), and their daughter Grace (15) were found dead in their home.

Police stated that they were dispatched to a home on Glen Castle Court around 4:14 PM on Sunday, August 31st, after receiving a request to check on the welfare of the Choi family, who were unreachable. There, they discovered three deceased individuals.

The cause of death has not been disclosed, but preliminary investigations suggest that Choi murdered his family and then took his own life, according to police.

Police Chief Mark J. Mitchell issued a statement saying, "This tragic incident has profoundly impacted not only the family and neighbors but our entire community. We extend our deepest condolences to the victims and ask that all members of our community remember them during this difficult time."

Johns Creek Police added that they would not release further details out of respect for the family and "to maintain the integrity of the ongoing investigation."

Choi was the director of Highland Dental in Suwanee and a well-known figure in the community.

His daughter, Grace, was a sophomore at Mount Pisgah Christian School, a private school in Johns Creek.

The school's Fine Arts Department posted on Instagram, "Our hearts are broken. Grace, you are so loved. You made us so proud, and you will forever be a cherished member of our arts family."

The school expressed its "deepest sorrow and profound sadness" over Grace's death and stated in a release, "We wish to extend our deepest condolences, heartfelt love, support, and prayers to Grace's family, friends, and all those grieving with our school community," NBC News reported.

Within the local Korean community, there is confusion and disbelief, as Dr. Choi was known to be financially well-off and to have a positive disposition, making his alleged actions incomprehensible.
