On the 4th, People Power Party leader Jang Dong-hyuk stated to the ruling party regarding the ongoing attempts by the Cho Eun-seok Special Prosecutor's team to search and seize the party's floor leader's office and other areas within the National Assembly building, "Those who prosper by special prosecutors will surely fall by special prosecutors."
Referring to special prosecutors as "special dogs" (특견 - special dogs), Jang said at the Supreme Council meeting, "Special dogs are always ready to bite their masters. If the balance of power shifts even by one degree, the special prosecutor's sword will immediately aim for the master's heart."
He claimed, "Today, laws that are outrageous are scheduled to pass the Legislation and Judiciary Committee, extending the special prosecutor's term, establishing a special tribunal, and even censoring trials. They intend to extend the special prosecution that began last winter and, because it's obvious there will be an acquittal, establish a special tribunal to conduct a people's trial."
Regarding the special prosecutor's search and seizure of the mobile phones of the party's secretariat staff, floor leader Song Eon-seok said, "Is it even reasonable to snatch a mobile phone before a lawyer can be called?" He added, "As the evidence was obtained through illegal search and seizure, we make it clear that it cannot be used as evidence in future investigation and trial processes."
He also commented on the special prosecutor's team's entry into the National Assembly building yesterday, stating, "While Speaker Woo Won-sik verbally stated that voluntary submission is desirable, a reasonable suspicion arises that he may have pre-approved the search and seizure before departing for China."
Earlier, Cho Eun-seok, the special prosecutor, seized the mobile phone of a secretariat staff member in connection with former People Power Party floor leader Choo Kyung-ho's alleged obstruction of martial law lifting, and is attempting to search and seize the floor leader's office and the office of the floor leader's administration within the National Assembly building.
The People Power Party has requested Speaker Woo not to allow the search and seizure of the floor leader's office and its administration, and is demanding that the special prosecutor's team execute the warrant through voluntary submission of documents through consultation.
