Heavy Rain Nationwide… Up to 150㎜+ Expected in Southern Gyeonggi, Chungnam, and Inland Gangwon Over Two Days

 Rain will begin in South Jeolla on the morning of the 12th, followed by the rest of the southern regions, the Seoul metropolitan area, and Chungcheong in the afternoon, and finally Gangwon by night.

The rain is expected to continue in most regions until the night of the 13th, and in some areas, until the afternoon of the 14th.

Precautionary measures are necessary as some areas may receive more than 150㎜ of rain by the 13th.

As low pressure moves eastward from the Shandong Peninsula in China, water vapor is being drawn in, causing rain to start in South Jeolla this morning. Following this, additional high-temperature, humid air will be channeled along the edge of the North Pacific High, gradually expanding the areas affected by precipitation.

In the case of Jeju, rain that began the previous day will continue throughout the day.

While rain will stop in the Seoul metropolitan area, Chungcheong, and the southern regions (excluding central and northern North Gyeongsang and the southern coast of North Gyeongsang) by the night of the 13th, precipitation will continue in Gangwon, central and northern North Gyeongsang, the southern coast of North Gyeongsang, and Jeju until the early morning or afternoon of the 14th, respectively.

Both the total volume and the intensity of the downpours are forecast to be higher than initially expected.

The expected precipitation for the 12th–13th is 50–100㎜ in southern Gyeonggi, Chungcheong, inland Gangwon, and mountainous Gangwon (with maximums of 150㎜+ in southern Gyeonggi, Chungnam, inland Gangwon, and mountainous Gangwon, and 120㎜+ in northern North Chungcheong). Seoul, Incheon, northern Gyeonggi, Honam, Busan, Ulsan, Gyeongnam, central and northern North Gyeongsang, Ulleungdo, Dokdo, and Jeju are expected to receive 30–80㎜ (with maximums of 150㎜+ in North Jeolla, 120㎜+ in Jeju, and 100㎜+ in Seoul, Incheon, northern Gyeonggi, and the mountainous regions of North Gyeongsang).

20–60㎜ of rain is expected for the five West Sea islands, Daegu, and southern North Gyeongsang.

Drought-plagued areas along the Gangwon east coast will also receive 20–60㎜ of welcome rain, with northern parts of the Gangwon east coast potentially receiving over 100㎜.

Heavy rain is expected to hit various locations from tonight through the morning of the 13th.

Precipitation will be particularly intense in the early hours of the 13th, with rainfall rates of 30–50㎜ per hour expected in southern Gyeonggi, inland and mountainous Gangwon, northern North Chungcheong, Daejeon, Sejong, Chungnam, and North Jeolla.

With the rain, daytime temperatures will remain between 24–28°C.

Highs will reach 28°C in Seoul, Incheon, and Busan; 27°C in Gwangju and Daegu; and 26°C in Daejeon and Ulsan.

Until the morning of the 12th, strong winds of 35–60 km/h (10–16 m/s) and high waves of 1.5–3.5 meters are expected in the western South Sea, coastal Jeju (excluding the west), the southeastern inner Jeju seas, the eastern inner South Sea, and the southern inner East Sea.

Rough sea conditions are expected across most maritime areas on the 13th.
