A cryptic TikTok video, posted without any accompanying explanation on President Donald Trump's Truth Social account, has caught attention.

The video features a woman urging President Trump to enact the "Charlie Kirk Law" to hold journalists and media outlets accountable for decades of media propaganda and false reporting.

Ellie May, who operates the TikTok account @official_elly_may, has also launched a petition on the online petition site Change.org addressed to President Trump and Vice President JD Vance.

According to the Change.org petition, it states: "His [Charlie Kirk's] life was sacrificed due to baseless claims spread by the mainstream media, not due to his own fault. These claims lacked any substantive evidence, vividly demonstrating how misinformation can endanger lives."

She asserts, "We are calling for the reinstatement of the Smith-Mundt Act, a pivotal piece of legislation that protects Americans from the manipulation and dissemination of disinformation. However, in this new era, this act should be revived and renamed the Charlie Kirk Act."

The Smith-Mundt Act, enacted in 1948 as the U.S. Information and Educational Exchange Act, prohibited the State Department from distributing materials produced for foreign audiences within the United States. The original intention was for Congress, the media, and academia to act as filters for information disseminated abroad by the State Department.

Ellie May emphasized, "This amended act holds media outlets, radio stations, educators, and content creators accountable for deliberately or irresponsibly disseminating false facts and misinformation."

She further proposed, "Furthermore, we propose strict penalties for social media companies that unjustly censor information. Fines equivalent to at least 35% of the company's value should be imposed for each violation. Baseless accusations, such as labeling individuals as bigots, fascists, or racists without verifiable evidence, are defamatory and endanger lives. Such actions must not be tolerated and should be met with stringent accountability measures."

As of 5:47 PM on the 15th, the petition had garnered 89,223 signatures and approximately 5,900 donations.

In the TikTok video, she urged Congress to swiftly draft such legislation and for President Trump to sign it into law.
