New College of Florida announced Tuesday it will erect a statue of Charlie Kirk. Sept. 16, 2025. [Screenshot via X]
U.S. Senator Rick Scott (R-Fla.) and U.S. Representative Jimmy Patronis (R-Fla.) announced Tuesday a resolution to designate October 14, 2025, as a "National Day of Remembrance for Charlie Kirk."
Scott made the announcement less than a week after Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, was publicly murdered during a speech at Utah Valley University. October 14 is Kirk's birthday.
Scott said in a statement that Kirk was "an engaging leader, a loving father and husband, and a friend and source of inspiration to many," and also called Kirk a personal friend.
"Charlie loved our country and its founding principles, and he deeply believed in the beauty of faith, family, and ideas and discourse," he said. "He lived with a sense of purpose and conviction, never shying away from difficult truths and difficult conversations, and he always believed in the power of our thoughts and faith to bring people together."

He emphasized that Kirk "worked for 31 years to make our country a better place before he was caught in a heinous act of political violence, and he will leave an enduring legacy on our country for years to come."
Scott said it would be Kirk's wish for Americans to keep their thoughts firm, continue discussions, and not lose hope, strength, or courage while seeking God's guidance in all things.
"I am proud to lead a resolution to designate October 14, the day that would have been his 32nd birthday, as a National Day of Remembrance for Charlie Kirk, celebrating Charlie’s legacy as an American patriot. It is a day for us to come together to pray and celebrate Charlie's impact on our nation," he added.
Rep. Patronis filed a similar resolution in the House of Representatives, describing Kirk as a "warrior who bravely fought for freedom of speech, faith, and the principles that make America the greatest country in the world."

The resolution comes as others seek ways to honor conservative leader Kirk. New College of Florida announced it plans to erect a statue of Kirk "to honor his legacy and amazing accomplishments."
