 People Power Party leader Jang Dong-hyuk announced on the 19th that he would "report the special prosecutor" regarding the search and seizure of a company managing the party member roster database (DB) the previous day.

At the party caucus held at the National Assembly today, Jang stated, "I am confident that the execution of yesterday's search and seizure warrant was illegal as it differed from the contents specified in the warrant."

He added, "I will also consider what legal action to take against the court for indiscriminately issuing warrants in this manner."

Furthermore, he mentioned, "Although the special prosecutor conducted a search and seizure yesterday, they were effectively unable to obtain the core information they sought, such as resident registration numbers and account numbers. Regarding the violation of the Political Parties Act mentioned in the criminal charges, they were unable to retrieve any meaningful data."

He continued, "They warned yesterday as if to conduct a fourth search and seizure," adding, "Even if they come for additional searches and seizures, we will protect only our party members' core information with an even more extraordinary resolve."

Floor leader Song Eon-seok stated that the special prosecutor's extraction of approximately 110,000 names by comparing the roster of 1.2 million Unification Church members with the approximately 5 million People Power Party members was "within a normal range."

Song explained, "Logically, since our party has nearly 5 million members, 10% of South Korea's population are our party members. If you bring any list of 1.2 million people, statistically, it is plausible that about 120,000 would be on our party member roster."

Speaking to reporters after the party caucus, he said, "We had no way of verifying if the list of 1.2 million people brought by the special prosecutor was indeed a list of Unification Church members. I felt it was unequal even while undergoing the search and seizure."

He further questioned, "They will try to frame it as if the Unification Church controls our party. If they brought a list of 2 million Catholics or Buddhists, about 200,000 would be our party members. Does it make sense to say that a specific religion dictates our party based on that?"

He asserted, "To impose a frame that religion dictates politics simply because there are people of a specific religion is a profoundly shallow political perception. It would be the proper order to check how many of the 1.2 million Korean Confederation of Trade Unions members are registered with the Democratic Party."

When asked, "How many of the party member rosters taken by the special prosecutor are those of responsible party members with voting rights in the party convention?" he only replied, "Very few." Yonhap News
