Police to Soon Investigate Those Accused of Defamation Over 'Cho Hee-dae Meeting Rumors'

 The police will soon launch an investigation into individuals who raised suspicions of a meeting between Supreme Court Chief Justice Cho Hee-dae and former Prime Minister Han Duck-soo.

An official from the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency stated at a regular press briefing on the 22nd that they have received four defamation complaints alleging the spread of false information from civic groups and are reviewing the assigned departments.

The police official explained, "The complaints are against individuals who made statements based on content aired on Open Gonggam TV."

Open Gonggam TV reported in May a recorded testimony claiming that Chief Justice Cho met with former Prime Minister Han and others after the impeachment ruling of former President Yoon Suk-yeol and made remarks about President Lee Jae-myung's case.

Following this, Democratic Party lawmakers Seo Young-kyo and Boo Seung-chan raised these suspicions, but Chief Justice Cho denied the allegations, stating they were untrue.

The police also stated that the complaints against People Power Party lawmakers Kwon Seong-dong and Lee Chul-gyu, who are accused of involvement in lobbying to save Bae Sang-yoon, chairman of KH Group, who is implicated in illegal North Korean remittance suspicions, have been assigned to the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's Anti-Corruption Investigation Division.

Regarding the rejection of the arrest warrant for Son Hyo-sook, CEO of Reboxchool, who is accused of comment manipulation, the agency said, "We will analyze the reasons for the rejection, conduct further investigations, and then review whether to reapply for the warrant."

Regarding unauthorized micro-payments by KT, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency has transferred 14 cases to the Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency, which is handling them. The individual who posted a threat of terrorism at a Dongguk University festival on the 11th has surrendered and is under investigation without detention for public endangerment. Regarding the terrorism threat incident impersonating a Japanese lawyer, agreements have been made to promptly receive necessary materials from the Japanese side.

The police are investigating the motive of suspect A, a man in his 50s, who has been arrested for damaging a part of the wall of Jongmyo, a UNESCO World Heritage site. For the suspects in the attempted kidnapping of elementary school students in Seodaemun-gu, whose arrest warrants were dismissed, supplementary investigations are being conducted to determine intent.
