Vote by Raised Hands Led by Democratic and Innovation Parties Amidst People Power Party's Opposition; Hearing Scheduled for the 30th
Members of the People Power Party Judiciary Committee protesting (Seoul=Yonhap News) Reporter Kim Joo-sung = On the 22nd, at a legislative hearing on prosecutorial reform held at the National Assembly Judiciary Committee in Yeouido, Seoul, regarding the loss of the 'Jeonjin Beopsa Gwanbong Belt,' members including Na Kyung-won of the People Power Party are protesting the exercise of the right to maintain order by Chairperson Choo Mi-ae.
Members of the People Power Party refused Chairperson Choo's request to remove a picket attached to their laptops that read, "Political Manipulation, Fake News Factory, Democratic Party!" 2025.9.22 utzza@yna.co.kr
The National Assembly Judiciary Committee will hold a hearing on the 30th at 10 a.m. to discuss the Supreme Court's decision to send back for retrial a case related to the election law, with a guilty verdict for Lee Jae-myung during his presidential candidacy.
The Judiciary Committee, in a plenary session on the 22nd, passed the plan to hold an 'Emergency Hearing on Allegations of Chief Justice Cho Hee-dae's Election Interference' and the attendance of witnesses and reference persons by a vote of raised hands, led by the Democratic Party.
The People Power Party, in protest, did not participate in the vote. Consequently, the motion was passed with 10 votes in favor and 5 abstentions out of 15 members present.
Park Eun-jeong, a member of the Innovation Party, argued, "The Cho Hee-dae Supreme Court committed a judicial coup that undermined democracy, and the judiciary interfered in the presidential election. The National Assembly, on behalf of the people, must ask questions. They must answer why they tried to eliminate a strong presidential candidate, and why Cho Hee-dae, Yoon Suk-yeol's 'friend's friend,' put Han Duck-soo forward as a presidential candidate."
