Foreign ministers from the Group of Seven (G7) nations, including the United States, Japan, and the United Kingdom, met in New York during the high-level session of the UN General Assembly and reaffirmed their commitment to the principle of complete denuclearization of North Korea.
In a joint statement released after their meeting on the 23rd (local time), the G7 foreign ministers stated, "We reaffirm our commitment to the complete denuclearization of North Korea and the immediate resolution of the abduction issue."
Furthermore, they condemned, "We express our concern over Russia's recent violations of the airspace of Estonia, Poland, and Romania. These actions are unacceptable and pose a risk to international security."
They emphasized the urgency of alleviating the immense suffering of civilians in Gaza through humanitarian aid and the release of all hostages, reiterating their call for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.
In their statement, the G7 foreign ministers expressed their support for the E3 (United Kingdom, France, and Germany), signatories to the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on Iran's nuclear program, in their recent initiation of the 'snapback' procedure, which means the automatic restoration of sanctions due to Iran's non-compliance with the agreement.
They urged, "We call on Iran to fully comply with its obligations under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and to resume full cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)." They also emphasized, "Iran must engage in direct dialogue with the United States to conclude a robust, comprehensive nuclear agreement that ensures it will never possess nuclear weapons."
